About

About Cerveza News

Cerveza News is an independent, bilingual local print newsletter for Mazatlán, Sinaloa: a folded sheet of short, useful pieces, a puzzle for the table, and clearly marked ads from nearby businesses. It is being relaunched, and we are building it in the open.

What it is

One sheet, two languages

Made for the table. The format is a single folded sheet, light enough to be picked up while waiting for food, a haircut or an appointment, and finished in a few minutes.

Local first. The point is the neighborhood: what is worth knowing, trying or fixing nearby, written by and for people who live and visit here.

Print and screen, kept in step. The plan is for what is printed and what is online to match, so readers and advertisers see the same thing in both places.

Free to the reader. The model is a free sheet paid for by clearly marked local ads. Where copies will be left is something we will announce only when it is confirmed.

How we work

Our editorial approach

  • Useful before clever. A piece earns its space by helping someone eat, go, do or understand something.
  • Checked before printed. Dates, places and names are verified. Photos need permission.
  • Positive and community-minded. We stay out of party politics. We would rather tell you a bakery changed its hours than who won an argument.
  • Ads are boxed and labelled. Advertising never poses as reporting, and reporting does not depend on who advertises.
  • Bilingual on purpose. English and Spanish are both written for the page, not one translated as an afterthought.
  • Corrections are public. If we get something wrong, we fix it where readers will see it. Please tell us.

Relaunch status

What works today, and what does not yet

What comes next

Our plan, in order

  1. Recover and verify past editions. Each one will be checked and shown with its own date, separately from this relaunch site.
  2. Publish the first relaunch issue. With real local content, labelled ad boxes and a confirmed place to pick it up.
  3. Add a directory and events once the listings are verified with the people behind them.
  4. Offer reader sign-up only when we can actually store it and honor it.

No dates are promised. When a step is done, this page will say so.

Independence

Cerveza News is independent. It is inspired by the one-sheet, read-it-at-the-table tradition of local print newsletters such as Coffee News, and is not affiliated with Coffee News or any other publication.
